THE ESSENTIAL DISTINCTION
A private wardrobe.
Or a professional seller.
Equestrian Vault is designed for both individual wardrobes and professional equestrian-fashion sellers. Under UK rules, those aren't necessarily the same kind of transaction.
Whether someone is a business trader depends on what they actually do, not simply which option they select on a form. Our intended review process will examine their selling activity before a garment can be released. UK competition guidance explains the distinction.
01 / AN INDIVIDUAL WARDROBEBuying from a private seller.
Someone genuinely selling their own unwanted clothing occasionally would not normally be treated as a business trader. A private-to-private transaction does not ordinarily carry the business seller's automatic 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right.
That does not mean a private seller can misrepresent a garment or sell one they do not have the right to sell. Descriptions, ownership, applicable agreements and other legal remedies still matter.
Before a purchase opens:We will need clear, legally reviewed terms explaining private-sale rights, any voluntary returns offered and the route for reporting an item that is not as described.
02 / A PROFESSIONAL WARDROBEBuying from a business trader.
Where a seller is acting in the course of business, UK consumer protection duties may apply. For most eligible distance purchases from a business, buyers generally have 14 days after receiving goods to notify the trader that they wish to cancel, followed by a further 14 days to return them.
Separate rights can apply where goods are faulty or not as described. Some exceptions and legally permitted deductions exist. Seller obligations cannot simply be removed by a “no returns” notice.
Before a purchase opens:The verified trader's identity, applicable cancellation information, return postage arrangements and how refunds work will need to be provided before payment.
03 / DELIVERY & COLLECTIONThe journey between wardrobes.
We are preparing three possible ways for garments to travel. These are choices under review, not currently bookable shipping services or approved prices.
01
Tracked post.
Dispatch supported by a genuine tracking reference and a clearly displayed expected timescale, once our shipping policies and carriers are approved.
02
Insured courier.
For higher-value pieces where additional care or cover is necessary. Insurance limits and actual carrier eligibility must be checked first.
03
Arranged collection.
Only where collection is genuinely available. We will not expose residential addresses on public listings or present a token “free collection” option merely to hide a mandatory delivery charge.
TRANSPARENT PRICESThe price first displayed to a buyer must include unavoidable charges, including any minimum mandatory delivery or collection fee, where calculable. More expensive optional services can be explained separately. No delivery tariff has been approved for the Vault yet.
These principles follow the CMA's 2 November 2026 guidance to retailers and marketplaces.
04 / WHEN SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHTHow the case process is being designed.
No refund processor, buyer-insurance scheme or guarantee is active today. Our future process must respect statutory rights, verified paid orders and the payment provider's responsibilities.
STEP 01Report the concern.
The buyer identifies an actual paid order and the issue, such as non-delivery, undisclosed damage, a materially inaccurate description or an eligible cancellation.
STEP 02Establish the facts.
Our team checks the verified seller type, relevant original listing, dispatch evidence, purchase terms and any applicable statutory rights.
STEP 03Review a fair outcome.
Where appropriate, a seller payout is held under the payment terms while the team assesses return, replacement, refund or further investigation.
STEP 04Confirm any money movement.
An actual refund would be made through the authorised payment provider and recorded only after provider confirmation, not because a case status changes.
Business distance-selling rules commonly require a refund within 14 days after the trader receives a valid return or suitable evidence it was sent, subject to the statutory requirements. Exceptions, faulty-goods rights and seller classification must be reviewed individually. This guide is not an operational complaints service.
05 / EDITORIAL & SAFETY
Honest condition.
A worthy next owner.
Every listing is expected to show genuine images and accurate information about brand, size, wear, stains, repairs, labels and availability. A seller must have the right to offer each item. Editorial review is not a promise that every designer garment has been independently authenticated.
Used riding helmets and body protectors, counterfeit clothing and other unsafe or prohibited goods will not be accepted under Equestrian Vault's policy. These are our proposed marketplace restrictions, not a claim that every used protective item is prohibited by law.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXTThe standards before the first sale.
These pages explain the framework we're developing, not binding seller conditions, a promise of buyer protection or a live returns process. The contracting parties, final privacy notices, terms, tax arrangements, verified shipping costs, fees and contact channels require professional approval and testing before trading begins.
